weekend recap

SERIES TITLE: Sex Series. Not very creative. I originally wanted to call the series, “how to have sex,” however some of the leaders at our church thought it was too provocative. I’m a little tired of fighting battles, so I decided to let this one pass. I probably ought to do that more often. Or not. I’m not sure.

MESSAGE TITLE: powerful by design

MESSAGE SUMMARY: I began with a few reasons why we are talking about sex in church. Sex is all over our culture. We think about it all the time, but most importantly, God created sex. Sex is powerful by design, not by accident. After unpacking this, I set up the big idea by painting a picture of four different snapshots into the future. First: when you get really serious about a relationship, when you think that person might be “the one.” What kind of sexual history do you want to bring to that moment. Second: the night before your wedding. Do you want to give the gift of sexual purity to your spouse. Third: You have kids, the first one is 11, the average age when someone encounters porn for the first time. What kind of sexual legacy do you want to leave them? Fourth: At the end of time, when you are standing before God, what will you want to say about your life. I shared the gospel at this point of the message, and then talked about sexual purity. I then ended with the big idea for the message.

BIG IDEA: Make your choices with the end in mind. (the sexual choices you make will impact every major milestone in your future.)

GAME / ELEMENT OF FUN: Trivia game, questions based on the topic of “powerful by design.” Each question has four options, every student moves to a corner of the room which corresponds to an answer. Everyone in the wrong corner is eliminated until there is one winner.

VIDEO: Love Science. It was really, really funny. You can see that here.

OTHER STUFF: We played four songs this weekend, two before the message, two after. We interviewed a student who was using one of our HABITS spiritual growth tools.

GRADE: B+ (great weekend service)
