How am too much like Saul?

How am I not enough like Stephen?

Saul did horrible things in the name of God. His zealous persecution resulted in the first Christian martyr! I’m compelled to consider: what sin and foolishness am I justifying in the name of Jesus? Where am I judging others too critically? When am I quick to anger? Who am I treating poorly?

Stephen gave up all his rights for Jesus. Not just his right to live, but he also gave up his need for justice. “Forgive them for killing me,” who can say this? Would I say this? Where do I get easily offended? When do I stand up and squawk out in rage?

It’s not about my will, but God’s will. It’s not about my rights, but honoring Jesus.

Lord, help me to be less like Saul and more like Stephen.
